Literature Text

My cat's on the bed,
Trying to take a nap,
Still sore from the crap
That's been hitting his head.
He just wants to sleep
(Just a tiny bit of sleep)
But the world's too harsh
For such a sweet little thing.
Too unforgiving and mean,
It's not really his scene.
Bo's his name
(Yeah, I know it's a little strange)
But he's too tired, or too used to it,
To complain.
Instead, he muddles through it,
Simply waiting for the chance for a good nap.
Everybody loves him,
But no one appreciates him.
They'll cry when he's gone,
As well they should,
And they'll miss him when he's gone,
As well they should,
And they'll want him back when he's gone,
As well they should,
But what are you going to do?
Force them to care?
Never works.
So Bo will just keep napping on my bed,
Avoiding the crap that gets lobbed at his head.
This is about Bo, my oldest cat. I wrote it now, because there have been several changes in my house (including a new kitten), and I think Bo has been getting the short end of the stick.
I love Bo. And I'm learning to appreciate him.

Does the cat symbolize something deeper?
Is Bo the nickname for Boy, or is Boy just a typo?
I feel the rhymes are a little trite, like you only said certain things because you wanted an AA BB rhyme pattern. I think that's why intellectual types hate rhyming in general now. I love rhymes! But they are tricky business.
I like the sentiment in this poem. The opening and conclusion are nice, like a refrain almost.

Thank you for your helpful comment! I really appreciated it!
